Booby that got away, Wilson’s Storm-Petrel, Scripps’s Murrelets, Arctic Tern, Buller’s Shearwaters, early Red and Red-necked Phalaropes and many Sabine’s Gulls headed south, jaegers galore including a Long-tailed chasing a South Polar Skua!

Lunge-feeding Humpback Whales including drone video; Pacific White-sided and Northern Right Whale dolphins including video of them riding the bow; big Salmon Sharks rubbing there bellies on logs; Manx Shearwaters, a booby, Scripp’s Murrelet, Laysan and Black-footed Albatrosses

More Murphy’s Petrels including a highly discussed, white-bellied one; 6-8 Scripps’s Murrelets, 3-4 Laysan Albatrosses, 2 Ancient Murrelets, South Polar Skua, Tufted Puffin; giant male Northern Elephant Seal; Humpback-dolphin feeding frenzy.

Thirty or more Murphy’s and 2 Hawaiian Petrels, adult Nazca Booby, Least Tern (!), Black Storm-Petrels in May (!), Manx Shearwater, and more!

A wild and exhilarating ride enjoyed by most; Murphy’s Petrels; Laysan Albatrosses; all the usual birds; Humpback Whales; huge group of Pacific White-sided and Northern Right Whale Dolphins providing excellent photo ops.

Pacific Union College lessons, great northward scoter and loon migrations, Salmon Shark, another Scripps’s Murrlet(!), Pterodroma hunt, Cocos Booby, Laysan Albatrosses, dozens of Mola eating millions of Vellela, Friendly Humpbacks, Guadalupe Fur Seal, Western Flyer, Pelagic Gooseneck Barnacles with nudibranchs and crabs, A mingling of veteran and young Mendocino birders.

Calm blue seas, incredible drone footage of Fin Whales and Blue Sharks (!), Laysan and Black-footed Albatrosses, Manx Shearwater, early Elegant Terns, Ancient Murrelet.

Half day trips with Native Americans and school groups, Gray Whales (/paxat/, /ts’im/, and /tsimsha/ in Chumash and Pomo),  gulls, albatross just 3 miles from shore, Parakeet Auklet(!).

We kicked off our 2026 Noyo Pelagics year in fine fashion yesterday, March 1st. Around 15 participants joined Richard and Corinne on the Kraken and Anchor Charters for a half-day trip to look for whales and get over Noyo Canyon.
